EES Department Printers

The department has an assortment of printers in several locations. The printers are networked and available on the EES network. You must supply your own paper. (You can purchase it by the ream in MSEC 208). Plotter usage must be recorded in the black notebook next to the plotter. Links to drivers were updated June 9, 2008. Please see the manufacturer's website for more up-to-date drivers.

How to Access Printers
The computers in MSEC 239 and 345 already have the above printers installed. To add one of the department printers to your own computer, follow one of the links below for your chosen operating system. Most systems will not need to download a printer driver except for the color Dell 5100cn printer and the Xerox printer..

Adding an EES Printer for Windows

1. If adding the Dell 5110 cn printerr, download the appropriate driver from the links above. Expand the archive to a convenient location.
2. Click the start menu and select 'Printers and Faxes'.
3. In the left side bar, click 'Add a Printer' and click 'Next'.
4. Select ‘A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer’ and click 'Next'.
5. Select ‘Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer, select this option and click Next):’.
6. Fill in the Name box with '\\eessamba.nmt.edu\<Printer name>' where <Printer name> is the printer name from the table above. For example, \\eessamba.nmt.edu\ees113-lj8 is the Name for adding the HP LaserJet 8150 DN in MSEC 113.
   Note: You can also browse for a printer in the network by selecting 'Browse for a printer'. In this case, you must select one of the printers listed under EES\eessamba entry.
7. Enter your SAMBA username and password when prompted.
   If you do not check 'Remember my password' box, you will not be able to use this printer next time you login and will have to remove&re-install it.
8. Click 'Next'.
9. Click 'Yes' on the 'Connect to Printer' dialog box. If another warning box stating that the server does not have the correct driver for this printer appears, click 'OK' to select the driver.
10. Navigate the driver selection menu and choose the correct driver for the printer model you are adding. If the driver is not on the list, you need to download the driver from the links above and expand the archive to a convenient location. Then click on 'Have Disk" and navigate to the drive you just downloaded.
11. Select whether or not you want this printer to become the default printer.
12. Click 'Next' and then 'Finish'.
13. If you are installing a printer with a Duplex unit, right click on the printer you just added and select 'Properties'.
14. Select ‘Device Settings’, scroll down, and set Duplex Unit to ‘Installed’.

Adding an EES Printer for Mac OS X 10.5.x

1. If adding the Dell 5110 cn printer, download the appropriate driver from the links above. Mount the image file and run the installer. This will ensure the correct printer driver is installed on your machine.
2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
3. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
4. Click the + button to add a printer.
5. Press the Control key while clicking the More Printers icon (or any other icon on the toolbar), then choose Customize Toolbar from the contextual menu that appears.
6. Drag the Advanced (gear) icon to the toolbar.
7. Click Done.
8. Click the Advanced icon that was added to the toolbar.
9. Choose Windows from the Type pop-up menu.
10. In the URL field, type the printer's address in the following format smb://eessamba.nmt.edu/<printername> where <printername> is the printer name from the table above. For example, smb://eessamba.nmt.edu/ees113-lj8 is the URL for adding the HP LaserJet 8150 DN in MSEC 113.
11. In the Name field, type the name you would like to use for this printer in Mac OS X.
12. Choose the appropriate PPD or printer driver from the Print Using pop-up menu.
13. Click Add.
14. Your Mac will ask you username and password first time you try to print a document with the printer you just added. Enter your SAMBA username and password. You can also save your password in your Mac OS keychain.

Adding an EES Printer for Mac OS X 10.3 through 10.4.11

1. If adding the Dell 5110 cn printer, download the appropriate driver from the links above. Mount the image file and run the installer. This will ensure the correct printer driver is installed on your machine.
2. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
3. Choose Print & Fax from the View menu.
4. Click on the ‘+’ symbol on the left of the pane.
5. Press alt - option key on your keyboard and click More Printers... button.
6. Select Advanced from the first combo box.
7. Select Windows Printer via SAMBA for the device option.
8. Enter a Name .
9. In the Device URI field, type the printer's address in the following format smb://<username>:<password>@eessamba.nmt.edu/<printername> where <printername> is the printer name from the table above, <username> is your EES login, and <password> is your EES password . For example, smb://sguy:secret@eessamba.nmt.edu/ees113-lj8 is the URL for adding the HP LaserJet 8150 DN in MSEC 113. Don't actually type in the < and >
10. From the Printer Model menu, select the brand of the printer you wish to add.
11. From the list, choose the driver for the printer model you have chosen to install.
12. Click 'Add'.
13. From the printer option menu, select ‘Duplex Unit’, if the printer has a Duplex Unit. Leave the other items at their default. Click 'Continue'.
14. Your Mac will ask you username and password first time you try to print a document with the printer you just added. Enter your SAMBA username and password. You can also save your password in your Mac OS keychain.
