Rob Bowman died June 6, 2009, at his home in Lemitar after a short battle with cancer. Rob had been with the department since 1987. He is survived by his wife, Karen Bailey-Bowman, and his son, Danny.

A memorial service was held at the Polvadera Cemetery on the frontage road next to San Lorenzo Catholic Church in Polvadera at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 10. A potluck lunch followed at Virgil Lueth's and Lisa Peters' house on Community Road. If you wish, donations may be made to the Socorro General Hospital Hospice Program in Rob's name.

Rob's primary research interests related to the interactions of dissolved chemicals with geologic materials. The work varied from microscopic and thermodynamic investigations of solute-surface interactions to the development of methods to remove toxic components from contaminated water.
