Since 1997 my partners and I have been building a gold exploration company based out of Elko, NV. In 1999 we took the Company public, and we are currently trading on the Toronto Ventures Exchange. Early in 2004 we purchased our first producing gold mine in Sinaloa, Mexico, and hired a Techie (Zach Hibdon, BS Geology 2004) to help us as the Company grows towards becoming an intermediate producer.

Paul T. Brandes (BS Geology '01) eclogite at pasty.com
February 22, 2004
Since I graduated from NMT in 2001, I married Nathalie Derrick (BS Geology '99, MS Geology '02) in the Mineral Museum two days after graduation. We then moved to Upper Michigan where I took a job at the Quincy Mine in Hancock giving underground geologic tours of the mine, interviewing potential new mine guides, and generally making sure the mine is safe for daily use. I have also worked as an independent consultant for International Paper and chaired "Keweenaw Week," a week long gathering of rockhounds, geologists, and noted speakers from around the world. In January 2003 I began studying for my Masters Degree in Geology at Michigan Technological University in Houghton where my thesis is on the secondary mineralization of the Keweenaw Peninsula and how it relates to copper sulfide emplacement. With luck, I hope to be graduating in May 2004 (cross my fingers. . .).

After almost 4 years working in the isotope labs at the USGS in denver, I have left to accept a position as a hydrologist in ski town USA. Our small satellite office services global clients in the mining industry. Outside of work, I spend most of my time hiking and mountain biking around town. The first snow of the year fell today actually. So those activities will shift over to the snow-sport side very shortly. If you come through steamboat, drop me a line!
