Inner core anisotropy, rotation, teleseismic earthquake doublets, and the ARCTIC experiment
by Xiaodong Song
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Seminar Details

Dr Song is the co-discoverer of the differential rotation of Earth's inner core (named as a 1996 Break Through of the Year by SCIENCE magazine). His talk will discuss the application of seismic observations in modeling and imaging the structure and dynamics of the Earth's core, including determination of the inner core super-rotation, mapping the fine structure of the inner core anisotropy and heterogeneity, structure near the inner core-fluid core boundary, and lateral variation of the lowermost mantle and core-mantle boundary.

Seminar held March 21, 2005, 12-1pm, MSEC 202 at New Mexico Tech - Pizza and drinks!
Sponsored by the Geophysics Program in the Department of Earth & Environmental Science--Host: Rick Aster
