Tephra from Mt. Erebus

Ash cloud shortly after being erupted from the summit crater of Mt. Erebus. Eruptions like these (and bigger) have almost certainly been occurring throughout the lifespan of the volcano. Evidence of such eruptions has been found within glacial ice on the flanks of the volcano and across McMurdo Sound, in the Transantarctic Mountains.
