Postdoctoral Position/40Ar/39Ar Thermochronology/New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology

We are seeking a geologist with a background in argon thermochronology and/or structural geology. The successful candidate will conduct, but not be limited to, argon thermochronological analyses on Precambrian rocks exposed below the Great Unconformity along a transect from central New Mexico to northern Colorado. The goal of the project is to better understand the geologic evolution (through thermal history analysis) for the nearly 1 billion years of missing rock record encompassing the Great Unconformity. Experience in geological mapping and structural analysis of brittle and reactivated faults is desirable. The successful candidate will have access to a state-of-the-art argon dating facility as well as electron microprobe, XRD, and XRF analytical equipment.

Appointment is for 18 months with possibility for extension depending upon performance and availability of funds. The position is open immediately and the search will be open until April 15, 2000 or until the position is filled. Please send a resume and three references to Matt Heizler, Dept.
