This conference will emphasize the chemical and physical roles of aqueous fluids in deformation, the sources and transport of fluids in deforming rock bodies and faults of the crust and mantle, and the importance of fluid-rock interactions to tectonics.
A special session titled "Fluids and Faulting: Cause and Effect" was held at the AGU 2002 Fall Meeting in San Francisco, December 6-10. Several members of the Faults and Fluids group presented research during this special session.
AAPG 1998 Meeting Special Session
A special session titled "Faults: Seals or Migration Paths?" was held at the Utah AAPG meeting May 17-20, 1998. For further information about the session, contact Jeffrey A. Nunn, Dept. Geology and Geophysics, Louisiana
State University, Baton Rouge, LA 70803, Tel: (504) 388-6657, Fax: (504) 388-2302, e-mail: jeff@geol.lsu.edu.
GSA 1997 Annual Meeting Theme Sessions
There were several fault and fluid related theme sessions at the Geological Society of America 1997 Annual Meeting in Salt Lake City.
Penrose Conference: Faults and Subsurface Fluid Flow
A The Geological Society of America Penrose Conference titled "Faults and Subsurface Fluid Flow: Fundamentals and Applications to Hydrogeology and Petroleum Geology" was held in New Mexico during September 1997. A conference report was published in the February 1998 issue of GSA Today, and a hypertext version of the report is also available for your reading pleasure.
