Wilson is Keynote Speaker for NGWA and Invited Speaker for EGU; CUAHSI News

John L. WilsonApril 30, 2007 -- John Wilson gave the Keynote Address at the 2007 Ground Water Summit, sponsored by the National Ground Water Association. Wilson talked about "Groundwater in an age of interdisciplinary science" in his address to the five-hundred attendees.

April 17, 2007 -- John Wilson give an invited talk at the European Geosciences Union Annual Meeting in Vienna, Austria. In a session aimed at building community hydrologic science in Europe, he talked about "How can hydrologic scientists learn to speak with one voice?" (Abstract)

In April, the Consortium of Universities for Hydrologic Science Inc (CUAHSI) circulated for comment a draft community Science Plan. NM Tech Professor John Wilson is chair of the CUAHSI Science Committee.


NMGS Best Student Poster Award

April 13, 2007 -- Congratulations to MS hydrology student Shasta McGee for winning the Best Student Presentation -- Poster award at the New Mexico Geological Society's Annual Spring Conference. The winning poster's title was "Chlorine-36 in the Rio Grande Valley." Fred Phillips is Shasta's advisor.

April 9, 2007 -- Congratulations to Hugo Gutierrez-Jurado, PhD Candidate in Hydrology, for his award-wining proposal to the National Center for Airborne Laser Mapping (NCALM). His proposal was 1 of 7 awarded out of almost 40 proposals. More.

Megan Curry Wins Scholarship

Meg CurryMarch 9 , 2007 -- Megan Curry, MS Student in Geology, has won the Karst Waters Institute's William L. Wilson Memorial Scholarship in Karst Science for 2007. This highly regarded award confers $1000 and a plaque on the winner. The selection committee noted that it was "impressed with the scope and novelty of your proposed research and your research area." The title of Megan's thesis project is: A Geomicrobiological and Geochemical Approach to Biogenicity of Moonmilk Formations: Spider Cave & Pahoehoe Cave, New Mexico; Thursday Morning Cave, Colorado; and Cataract & Thrush Caves, Alaska -- Penny Boston - NMT article
