A native southwesterner, Gary's expertise is in structural geology, tectonics, and fault mechanics. He is well known for his work on low-angle normal faulting and extensional tectonics in the Basin and Range, Salton Trough, and other areas, including current work in Iran and Mexico. Aster Co-convenes WorkshopSeptember 15, 2004 -- Rick Aster and Karl Karlstrom (Univ New Mexico) convened the Rocky Mountain Earthscope Workshop I on Sept 15-18 at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge. It was the first of two NSF-funded workshops on EarthScope science, education and outreach, and community organization in the Rocky Mountain Region.
