Dr. Gary Axen to Join EES in 2005

Dr. Gary AxenNovember 24, 2004 -- We are very pleased to announce that Dr. Gary Axen, currently at UCLA, will be joining our department next year as an Associate Professor of Geology. When former faculty member Laurel Goodwin departed for a position at the University of Wisconsin, we initiated an international search for her replacement. Gary was our top choice and will be a great addition to our department.

A native southwesterner, Gary's expertise is in structural geology, tectonics, and fault mechanics. He is well known for his work on low-angle normal faulting and extensional tectonics in the Basin and Range, Salton Trough, and other areas, including current work in Iran and Mexico. He is a committed teacher and exceptional researcher. Additional details can be found on his website. Gary will arrive in time for the fall 2005 semester. (Story by Peter Mozley)
