Directions to Valles Caldera National Preserve
~3 hour drive from Socorro
I25 North
2nd exit of Bernalillo on 550 N
In San Ysidro (after milemarker 23) take right turn onto HWY 4 towards Jemez
Pueblo / Jemez Springs
Enter Valle Grande at milemarker 39.2 (San Ysidro = milemarker 0)
If gate is open stop at welcome center to sign in.
In the following, all milages are referenced to the VCNP entrance gate. For access to all sites drive on VC01 and turn right at T onto VC02.
RECEIVER:
Drive 6.7 miles. Receiver is in wide clearing to the left.
TRANSMITTER
At driving distance of 2.6 miles from transmitter. at ~ 1 mile from receiver
need to turn nearly 180 degree right up onto VC04.
EDDY COVARIANCE STATION
Turn right after 5.7 miles onto VC0204 towards barn. Go around barn and continue
on this road until you reach gate. Drive slowly - bumpy road.
HOBO LOGGERS IN VCNP
The uppermost and 2nd uppermost HOBOs are in VCNP. Turn left after 6.1 miles
onto VC0201. First HOBO logger is after 1.4 miles just above U-turn in the road. Second HOBO is
after additional 2.9 miles in clearing to the left. At some point turn onto VC0301.
HOBO LOGGERS ON HIGHWAY 4
3rd HOBO is at milemarker 28.3, ~ .1 miles south of Redondo
campground.
4th HOBO is near milemarker 24.4, below a parking lot
5th HOBO is between milemarkers 19 and 20, at the north end of Jemez Spring. From
Jemez Springs take left onto dirtroad 'Eagle Dr', then right onto Talon Lane. From the
end of Talon Lane it is ~300ft diagonally up the hill to HOBO.
